You can be sure there's been innumerable times like this when a prospective buyer is looking at power mixers. The one on the left has everything he or she needs but is the audio equipment equivalent of a menhir and has a price tag that's equally heavy. The one on the right is appealingly compact but it won't have the capacity to handle the demands they're going to place on it.
Something in between would be perfect, but is nowhere to be found.
That is, until now. Behringer is proud to offer all of the might and versatility of a large mixer board with the portability of smaller units in the PMH880S Europower Powered Mixer. It is their top-of-the-line box type powered mixer and pairs powerful sonic performance with a compact box design that is nearly half the depth and weight of conventional powered mixers.
10 channels (6 mono / 2 stereo) plus stereo tape returns distribute all the power surging forth from a mighty 2 x 400 watt amplifier that has more than enough juice for most performance environments. The Europower's 8 low-impedance mic preamps are joined by balanced high-impedance line outputs for direct connection of line sources or high-output instruments. Additional practical features include a monitor send and two FX sends for each channel and each mono channel has a switchable -30 db pad. +48 V phantom power is standard for use of condenser microphones.
This mixer doesn't come up short in any way with sound definition either. First, each mono channel has a musical 3-band EQ with switchable pad and clip LEDs. Next, between 2 independent 24-bit stereo FX processors with select VIRTUALIZER presets and a 7-band graphic EQ, you are the absolute overlord presiding over your mix and how it will be defined. A speaker processing function adjusts frequency response to match high-quality speakers and Behringer's revolutionary FBQ Feedback Detection system will automatically monitor and omit feedback signals for clear, distortion-free sound from start to finish.
When you can house all this capability and more in a rack-mountable unit that weighs slightly more than 9 kilograms, you've got it right and Behringer has done just that. They'll have to twist the old saying somewhat to read "big things come in smallER packages."
